New ski season looking good in Tignes

New ski season looking good in TignesThe skiing season in the northern hemisphere is in the early stages of its highly anticipated beginning, and ski enthusiasts across the world are taking to online blogs to share the first skiing experiences of the 2012/2013 season.

Plenty of ski fans enjoying singles ski holidays in Tignes have already begun to sample their first piece of winter snow, and one particular blogger was lucky enough to visit the high-altitude resort in its first few weeks of opening.

Rob Rees enjoyed some refreshing glacier skiing sessions on the Grande Motte and raved about his first step onto the slopes for 2012, describing it as “spectacularly good”. He noted in particular the quality of the snow, firm and “grippy” but soft enough for smooth skiing.

The second day had more changeable weather with plentiful amounts of wind and snow, and although that day was less successful for skiing, the dramatic scene itself was worth a good mention in the blog.

Things to consider to stay safe on your skiing holiday

Skiing and snowboarding will always be a popular holiday choice, with many taking delight in the thrills and spills of the slopes rather than lazing on a sun kissed beach. With excitement, however, inevitably comes danger, with thousands of people injuring themselves every year on the world’s pistes. Here are just a few things you should consider in order to stay safe on the slopes.

Firstly, people need to respect the limits of your resort. With skiing off piste providing such a rush, it’s often difficult to resist going on an adventure off the beaten track, especially when you’re faced with a crowded slope. Ropes and warning signs aren’t put there to ruin your day; they often deter you from a hazardous situation that could have disastrous consequences. If a run is deemed safe to ski, it will be open for you enjoy. Don’t push your luck and break the boundaries – you may end up regretting it. Read the rest of this entry »
